Product Usage
Food Applications
As an effective thickener and stabilizer, CMC improves food texture and mouthfeel by increasing viscosity (e.g., providing a smooth texture to ice cream and preventing whey separation in yogurt). It also works synergistically with proteins and starches to prevent ingredient separation and extend shelf life. In low-fat foods, it can replace fat, mimicking the smooth, creamy texture of traditional products.
Battery Applications
In zinc-manganese/lithium-ion batteries, CMC acts as an electrolyte thickener, forming a gel network to stabilize the electrolyte and prevent leakage, while also promoting ion migration and improving conductivity. In the electrode, it functions as a binder, enhancing the adhesion between the active material and the current collector, and reducing structural collapse during repeated charge/discharge cycles.
Pharmaceutical Applications
As a pharmaceutical binder and controlled-release carrier, CMC improves tablet formulation and controls drug release rate; in medical dressings, it forms a moisturizing gel layer that promotes wound healing, while also possessing good biocompatibility and safety.
