Product Details

Products Description of Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) | CAS#24937-79-9

PVDF is in the form of white or off-white translucent fine particles or powder with high crystallinity. It is tough, durable, and has a smooth surface. It is odorless and melts into a transparent viscous liquid when heated to approximately 160-170°C. It is insoluble in water but soluble in polar organic solvents such as DMF and NMP, exhibiting excellent weatherability, radiation resistance, and piezoelectric properties.

Product Application of Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) | CAS#24937-79-9

Preparation Method: Using Vinylidene Fluoride (VDF) as the monomer raw material, PVDF is produced via suspension polymerization or emulsion polymerization. In a high-pressure autoclave, using deionized water as the medium, initiators and dispersants are added, VDF gas is introduced, and polymerization is carried out at suitable temperature (approx. 40-100°C) and pressure. After polymerization, the product is coagulated, washed, and dried to obtain PVDF resin.

Main Application Areas:

  • Coatings Industry:used for architectural fluorocarbon coatings and coil coatings, offering outstanding weatherability and self-cleaning properties;

  • Lithium Battery Industry:used as a positive electrode binder for lithium-ion batteries, a key material in the new energy sector;

  • Water Treatment:used for preparing hollow fiber ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes, with excellent chemical resistance and anti-fouling properties;

  • Chemical Corrosion Protection:used for linings and seals of chemical pipes, valves, and pump bodies;

  • Electrical and Electronics:used for high-temperature insulated wire and cable sheaths, piezoelectric film sensors, etc.

Safety Information: This product is not classified as a dangerous chemical. However, during processing (e.g., high-temperature melting), small amounts of irritating gases such as hydrogen fluoride may be released; good ventilation should be maintained. Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, protected from direct sunlight.

Upstream and Downstream Product Information: Upstream raw material is Vinylidene Fluoride (VDF, CAS#75-38-7); downstream products include PVDF coatings, lithium battery binders, hollow fiber membranes, chemical anti-corrosion fittings, piezoelectric films, etc.
