Product Details

Products Description of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) | CAS#9002-84-0

PTFE is in the form of pure white fine powder or fluffy fibrous agglomerates, with an extremely slippery tactile sensation resembling talcum powder or soap. It is odorless and tasteless, and when heated to approximately 327°C, it melts but does not flow (forming a gel-like state). It is insoluble in all known solvents and exhibits an exceptionally low coefficient of friction, outstanding high-temperature resistance, and superb corrosion resistance, earning its reputation as the "King of Plastics."

Product Application of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) | CAS#9002-84-0

Preparation Method: Using Tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) as the main monomer raw material, PTFE is produced via free-radical suspension polymerization or dispersion polymerization. In a high-pressure autoclave, using deionized water as the medium, initiators (such as persulfates), dispersants, and stabilizers are added, TFE gas is introduced, and polymerization is carried out at suitable temperature (approx. 70-90°C) and pressure. After polymerization, the product is subjected to coagulation, washing, drying, and pulverization to obtain PTFE resin powder or dispersion products.

Main Application Areas:

  • Chemical Corrosion Protection:used for corrosion-resistant pipe linings, valve seals, gaskets, pump coatings, etc.;

  • Electrical and Electronics:used for high-frequency insulation materials, wire and cable insulation layers, PCB substrates, etc.;

  • Daily Necessities/Cookware:used for non-stick pan coatings (Teflon), baking tray coatings, etc.;

  • Mechanical Industry:used for self-lubricating bearings, oil-free lubrication sliding parts, sealing rings, etc.;

  • Medical Field:used for artificial blood vessels, cardiac patches, surgical sutures and other biomedical materials.

Safety Information: This product is not classified as a dangerous chemical; it is an inert polymer material. However, thermal decomposition may occur during high-temperature processing (>350°C), generating toxic gases (such as hydrogen fluoride). Adequate exhaust ventilation should be maintained, and inhalation of decomposition products should be avoided. Store in a cool, dry, and clean warehouse, away from strong oxidizing agents.

Upstream and Downstream Product Information: Upstream raw material is Tetrafluoroethylene (TFE, CAS#116-14-3) and dispersants/additives; downstream products include PTFE pipes, sheets, rods, seals, coatings, fibers, films, and other fabricated products.
