Products Description of Nylon 6 Chips (PA6 / Polyamide 6) | CAS#25038-54-4
PA6 chips are in the form of milky white to slightly yellowish cylindrical or irregular granules, with a smooth surface, tough and wear-resistant texture. They have a slight characteristic polyamide odor and melt into a transparent or translucent viscous liquid when heated to approximately 220°C. They are insoluble in water but soluble in polar solvents such as formic acid and phenol, exhibiting excellent impact resistance and abrasion resistance.

Product Application of Nylon 6 Chips (PA6 / Polyamide 6) | CAS#25038-54-4
Preparation Method: Using Caprolactam (CPL) as the sole monomer raw material, PA6 is produced via ring-opening polymerization. Under high temperature (approx. 250-270°C) and inert gas protection, water or aminocaproic acid is added as an initiator to trigger the ring-opening polymerization of caprolactam, forming polyamide 6 melt. After polymerization, the melt is extruded, cooled, pelletized, extracted (to remove unreacted monomers and oligomers), and dried to obtain PA6 chips.
Main Application Areas:
Fiber Grade (Nylon):used for apparel fabrics (e.g., nylon stockings, sportswear), carpet yarns, industrial tire cords, fishing nets, etc.;
Engineering Plastic Grade:used for automotive parts (e.g., engine covers, gears, bearings), electronic and electrical components, power tool housings, cable ties, etc.;
Film Grade:used for food packaging films, composite films, etc.
Safety Information: This product is not classified as a dangerous chemical. During processing (injection molding, extrusion), care should be taken as the high-temperature melt may release small amounts of caprolactam monomer vapor; adequate ventilation should be ensured. Store in a dry, cool, and sealed environment. PA6 is hygroscopic; after opening, it should be used promptly or dried before use (recommended moisture content < 0.1%).
Upstream and Downstream Product Information: Upstream raw material is Caprolactam (CPL, CAS#105-60-2); downstream products include nylon fibers, engineering plastic products, films, monofilaments, cable ties, etc.
